About Us

About Kerala Blind
School Society

School for the Blind, Aluva was established in 1962 and is managed as a Private Aided institution under the Kerala Blind School Society. A co-educational residential school serving students from Nursery to Class 7, with English and Malayalam as media of instruction. From Class 8 to 10, it functions as a Resource Hostel and Mother School for children studying under the Inclusive Education scheme in nearby government schools, providing hostel, accommodation, food and learning resources.

All subjects follow the Kerala State Syllabus without any omission. The only difference is that reading and writing is in Braille or on computer. UP students (Grades 5-7) have individual computers and smartphones. LP classrooms have 2-3 computers each, with computer training from Nursery.

The library holds 3,000+ Braille, print and audio books. All students hold Bookshare global membership. Food, accommodation, books and uniforms - everything completely free. The annual Mikavutsavam (Excellence Festival) showcases student achievements as a form of social auditing.

From Class 8 to 10, the school functions as a Resource Hostel and Mother School under the Inclusive Education scheme. Students attend Kuttamassery School and other nearby government schools for academics while the school provides hostel, accommodation, food, uniforms and all learning support resources.

Alumni represent India in men's and women's blind cricket teams. Our alumna Sandra Davis is a member of the Indian Women's Blind Cricket Team. Five of our students currently play in the Kerala team. School grounds are a key state-level training venue under CABK.

Are all students taught Braille?+
All students who cannot follow print are taught Braille. Low vision students helped with large print or magnifiers. Special Braille literacy classes ensure fluency.
What is Mikavutsavam?+
The annual Excellence Festival where students publicly demonstrate competencies acquired during the year - a form of social auditing and celebration of achievement.

Do donations to this school qualify for income tax exemption?+
Yes. Kerala Blind School Society is registered under 12A and 80G of the Indian Income Tax Act. As a donor, you can claim 50% of your donated amount as a tax deduction from your taxable income under Section 80G. You will receive an official donation receipt and Form 10BE (donation certificate) for filing your income tax return. This benefit is available to both individuals and companies.
What certifications does the school hold for tax exemption?+
12A Registration — exempts the school itself from paying income tax, meaning 100% of donations go directly to the children. 80G Certificate — allows donors to claim 50% of their donation as a deduction from their own taxable income, reducing their personal or corporate tax bill.

The first Accessible Experience Zone in Kerala was established at our school - only the second in all of India. A historic milestone for STEM education for visually impaired students.
